FRACTURE by Megan Miranda

What could you do in 11 minutes? Maybe bake a cake? Run to the store? Finish your homework? It seems like a short amount of time, a time when you could do something simple. However, being under water for 11 minutes means sure death. Or at least its supposed to. That's what the doctors told Delaney Maxwell when she wakes up having survived 11 minutes with no air. She's a miracle, an anomaly because she's alive and with no visible brain damage.  Or at least no damage that doctor's can see. But Delaney knows there must be something wrong - she is now drawn to those who are dying. And in being drawn to them she meets Troy, a lonesome college boy who know's exactly what she's going through. He could be everything she needs at this time, but may prove to be the worst thing that's happened to her. As Delaney to understand her knew life, all that she's known begins to fall apart. Everything about her life is changing, and she's not sure if its all for the best.

Megan Miranda's debut novel is honestly one of the best I've read. It's packed with rough emotion, a fear and a sadness that you feel for yourself as though you were going through all Delaney were going through. Miranda had no fear in throwing punch after punch of serious, saddening stuff. She wasn't looking to write a happy story - she wrote a real story. And what's better - she knew what she was talking about. Having graduated from Harvard, Medical facts aren't something she pulls out of her head. She really researched and knew everything about what happens to those who drown. that made it ten times more realistic. Even after I finished the novel I kept thinking about all the things Delaney went through and how even still she made the best of it. I would suggest this to anyone who reads (but maybe not 7 year olds....) I can guarantee you will love it as much as I did.
